Japan and Belgium Partner Up to Promote Regenerative Nanobiotech
The Japanese Society for Regenerative Medicine and imec will jointly pursue nanobiotechnology for regen med applications.

The Japanese Society for Regenerative Medicine (JSRM) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with imec, a Belgium-based research and development center specializing in nanoelectronics and digital technology.
JSRM is one of the largest societies for regenerative medicine globally, with approximately 6,000 members from diverse fields including basic and clinical medicine, tissue engineering, cell biology, bioethics, regulatory science, law, and medical economics.
imec is a an independent R&D center focused on nanoelectronics and digital technology.
The MoU outlines several areas of collaboration, including:
- Formation of joint partnerships for international research and industrialization in nanobiotechnology and regenerative medicine
- Bilateral exchange of scientific, clinical, regulatory, and technological knowledge
- Joint public engagement initiatives to enhance societal understanding of integrated nanobiotechnology
- Other collaborative activities, such as co-hosting seminars, dispatching speakers, and supporting startups in relevant fields
According to JSRM, the agreement aims to bridge life science and nanoelectronics technology through cross-disciplinary and cross-cultural cooperation.
Paru Deshpande, Vice-President of imec, stated: “At imec, we have been working at the intersection of nanoelectronic technology and medical science for many years, and we see that this convergence has greatly accelerated medical science. But as a society, we face many more challenges than one organization can handle, and we see the growing need to build collaborations to develop the next generation of solutions.
These collaborations can span technical disciplines, but also societies, countries, and even cultures. At imec we believe that strong collaboration is essential to build a sustainable and healthy future for everyone.”
