ISSCR and the Canadian Stem Cell Network Team Up on Regen Med Workforce Initiative

A new joint initiative seeks to address workforce needs and skills gaps in the rapidly evolving regenerative medicine sector.

November 7, 2025

The International Society for Stem Cell Research (ISSCR) and the Canadian Stem Cell Network (SCN) have announced a joint initiative to develop the regenerative medicine workforce.

It’s called the “Working Group on Global Workforce Development in Stem Cells and Regenerative Medicine”, and they’re currently looking for nominations until December 5th, 2025.

The group will include 10-12 members from around the world who will address current challenges in trainee career development, identify skills gaps, and develop strategies to build talent for continued progress in research and clinical applications.

Here’s what they’re looking for:

  • Senior trainees or highly qualified personnel (HQP), such as graduate students, postdocs (postdoctoral researchers), research associates or technicians;
  • Early career scientists (principal investigators/faculty within five years of starting an independent position); or
  • Early career industry scientists (within five years after transitioning from academia).

Selected members will meet at both the ISSCR 2026 Annual Meeting in Montreal (QC) and at Till & McCulloch Meetings 2026 in Vancouver (BC). Members will also contribute to a final report summarizing findings.
