Thermo Fisher Scientific launches new cell therapy development center in San Diego
The new Carlsbad facility will provide researchers with critical tools, expertise, and support to rapidly advance cell therapies toward clinical manufacturing.
Thermo Fisher Scientific has opened its new Advanced Therapies Collaboration Center (ATxCC) in Carlsbad, California. The 6,000-square-foot facility aims to support biotech, biopharma, and translational researchers working on cell-based immunotherapy development, helping them transition from research-scale projects to clinical and commercial manufacturing.
Through ATxCC, developers can collaborate with Thermo Fisher to transition their processes toward Current Good Manufacturing Practices and navigate common regulatory compliance and commercialization challenges.
The ATxCC program provides:
– Access to innovative technologies: Developers can use Thermo Fisher laboratory equipment and analytical solutions, some of which may not yet be commercially available. These tools can potentially streamline manufacturing, minimize contamination risks, and support product consistency.
– Protocol and process optimization support: Thermo Fisher reports that its specialized scientists and engineers will help developers optimize manufacturing processes and protocols, making them scalable and robust.
– Ongoing support as therapeutic programs evolve: Regulatory, quality, and partnership management teams will be available to assist developers as their cell therapy programs advance, offering targeted support to address evolving challenges.
In addition to Carlsbad, Thermo Fisher has similar collaboration centers in Singapore and Korea, with another expansion planned in Philadelphia later this year. These centers focus on providing clinical and commercial cGMP process development support to partner organizations.
