Key findings

  • Dark Horse Consulting Group has acquired Bruder Consulting & Venture Group, forming a new unit called DHC Regenerative Medicine.
  • The move brings on a new team of experts to expand its consulting scope within regenerative medicine, tissue repair, and biomaterials.

Dark Horse Consulting Group (DHCG) has acquired Bruder Consulting & Venture Group (BCVG), a consulting and advisory firm serving the biologics, medical devices, and combination products industries.

BCVG will now operate as a department within Dark Horse Consulting (DHC) called DHC Regenerative Medicine.

Stem cell history lesson

The late Dr. Arnold Caplan, known as the “Father of Mesenchymal Stem Cells (MSCs),” was the first to discover and describe MSCs, laying the foundation for virtually all regenerative medicine in use today.

Dr. Caplan founded Osiris Therapeutics, developing an early MSC therapy called remestemcel. This product was acquired by Mesoblast, which renamed it to Ryoncil. It’s an allogeneic bone marrow-derived MSC therapy for graft-vs-host disease, and in December 2024, it made history by becoming the first MSC therapy approved by the FDA.

Dr. Scott Bruder, MD PhD

In the mid-90s, our friend, Dr. Scott Bruder, MD, PhD, was the third employee at Osiris, earning his PhD under Dr. Caplan. Dr. Bruder went on to become Worldwide VP of Johnson & Johnson Regenerative Therapeutics, Chief Medical & Scientific Officer of Stryker, and eventually took that experience and began BCVG to help regenerative developers get to market.

You can view his webinar on what they do here.

What BCVG brings to the group

DHCG was founded in 2014 with an initial focus on cell & gene therapies, and has expanded to broader biopharma consulting, with offices around the world in North America, Europe, and APAC.

BCVG focuses on discovery and development strategy, clinical design, and regulatory pathways for companies developing products in orthopedic, wound care, and plastic and reconstructive surgery markets. Their experts have completed more than 900 projects for over 150 companies (here’s a snapshot of their clients), and have led or supported more than $2 billion in licensing, merger, and acquisition transactions.

Now, the groups will join forces to advance the industry, and we look forward to hearing updates on their projects in 2026.

If you’re a regen med developer and you need a hand, you can request a consultation with the DHC Regenerative Medicine team here.

Dr. Bruder said, “Joining forces with DHC allows us to scale the expertise that our core team and advisors can provide, thus widening our opportunities to support Client Partners at all stages of the development process. Our expertise in the field of regenerative medicine will also add comprehensive additional value and service offerings to the Group’s current clients.”
