China Launches Huge Umbilical Stem Cell Longevity RCT
PLA General Hospital has begun recruiting 2,000 adults aged 50 and older for a multicenter randomized trial to assess whether an approved umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cell therapy can safely improve aging-related decline.

Key Points
- The Second Medical Center of the PLA General Hospital has started recruiting for a 2,000-participant clinical trial studying human umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) for aging-related decline in adults aged 50 and older.
- The study is a multicenter randomized controlled trial to assess efficacy and safety.
- The investigational product, Ruibo Sheng, is China’s first approved stem cell therapy, already conditionally approved for steroid-refractory acute graft-versus-host disease (aGVHD).
The Second Medical Center of the PLA General Hospital has launched recruitment for a clinical trial evaluating the infusion of human umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) to address age-related decline.
The study, titled “A Multicenter Randomized Controlled Study on the Efficacy and Safety of Umbilical Cord Mesenchymal Stem Cell (Aimemetose Injection) Infusion in Improving Aging,” registered as ChiCTR2600125012, is part of a National Key Research and Development Program of the Ministry of Science and Technology.
The trial is aimed at adults aged 50 and older who have experienced or are at risk of functional decline. The therapy being studied is amimestrocel, marketed under the trade name Ruibo Sheng, which was granted conditional approval in January 2025 for steroid-refractory acute graft-versus-host disease (GVHD).
The study will use a multicenter, randomized controlled design to evaluate both efficacy and safety, and plans to enroll 2,000 participants to provide large-scale clinical data on its efficacy.
The developer, Platinum Life Sciences, is also beginning exploratory research in diabetic nephropathy, vascular aging, and other areas.
